Do Epic Shit by Ankur Warikoo - Book Review and Personal Takeaways
Last month, I finished reading Do Epic Shit by Ankur Warikoo. It's not like your typical self-help book, but I found it really interesting. In this blog, I'm not just going to review the book but also share some real-life things you might find helpful. You'll see how you can practically apply these lessons to your life and become more productive.
After all, what's the point of reading if you don’t apply what you learn, right?
Introduction:
Do Epic Shit by Ankur Warikoo is a self-help book with six chapters.
Each chapter focuses on a different theme, from success and failure to money, relationships, and entrepreneurship. What stands out about this book is how Warikoo shares his personal mistakes and lessons. As Chanakya once said:
"Learn from the mistakes of others; you cannot live long enough to make them all yourselves”
Success and Failure
One of my favorite parts of the book is when Warikoo talks about success and failure. Here's a quote that really stood out to me:
"A year from now, you will wish you had started today."
This hit me hard because, like many people, I’ve also procrastinated, thinking I didn’t have enough time. But the reality is, time moves fast, and after a year, we either have results or regret.
For example, I started my YouTube channel on June 30, 2024. I didn’t know anything about video editing, audio editing, or even how to speak properly. But I decided to start anyway, and I learned along the way.

Now, looking back, I realize that even though I wasn’t perfect, I made small progress, and I know I’ll get better as time goes on. So, here’s a question for you:
Do you think we should wait until we’re fully prepared, or should we learn by doing?
2. Using Technology for Growth:
In another chapter (Habits), Warikoo talks about using technology to make life easier. He believes we should automate tasks that waste time but don’t add value.
I totally relate to this! One of the tech tools that has changed my life is ChatGPT. Before ChatGPT, I had a ton of questions and no one to help me. Now, I use it for everything—improving my English, writing emails, learning new concepts, even generating AI images and solving coding errors.
ChatGPT has made learning easy, and I think we all should use technology to make our lives simpler.
How often do you use technology or AI tools to solve problems?
3. Awareness and Comparison:
Another great lesson in the book is about not comparing yourself to others. Warikoo emphasizes that everyone’s journey is different. We all come from different backgrounds, have different opportunities, and are shaped by our own experiences.
In my opinion, comparing yourself to others is the worst thing you can do. It just complicates life. Instead, take inspiration from successful people but focus on your own path.
We all have smartphones and access to the internet. Instead of wasting time comparing, use these resources to learn new skills. Whether it's YouTube, online courses, or free platforms, make the most of what you have.
4. Entrepreneurship and Leadership:
As an entrepreneur, Warikoo stresses the importance of staying calm during tough times. Leading a team is challenging, and things don’t always go as planned. But the mark of a true leader is maintaining composure when everything seems to be falling apart.
Your team looks to you for strength during difficult moments. If you lose your cool, you risk breaking their morale. This is a valuable lesson for anyone in a leadership position—whether you’re running a business or managing a small team.
5. Money and Real Assets:
In the chapter on money, Warikoo busts the myth that luxury cars and big houses are real assets. According to him, your real asset is your content and your audience. As a content creator, I completely agree. The more you focus on delivering value to your audience, the more you grow.
Cars and bungalows might look good, but they don't last. However, if you invest in your content and build a strong connection with your audience, that’s an asset that can grow over time.
My Key Takeaways
Here are some of the biggest lessons I took away from the book:
1. Start Now: Don’t wait to be perfect. Start, learn, and improve.
2. Leverage Technology: Automate and use tools to save time.
3. Stop Comparing: Focus on your journey, not others.
4. Build Your Audience: Content and connections matter more than material things.
My Personal Opinion and Implementation
This book was a refreshing read because it felt more like a conversation than a lecture. Warikoo’s casual, relatable style makes it easy to read, even for someone who might not be fluent in English. His advice isn’t groundbreaking, but it’s practical and easy to implement.
For example, I’ve started using more tech tools to streamline my work, and I’ve stopped comparing myself to others. These small changes have already had a big impact on my productivity.
Should You Read Do Epic Shit?
If you’re between 18-30 and just starting out in your career or entrepreneurship journey, this book is definitely worth your time. It’s not a “life-changing” book, as Warikoo himself admits, but it’s filled with small, actionable advice that can make a difference in your everyday life.
The writing is simple and straightforward, so even if you’re not a big reader, you can finish this book in 3-4 days, or even in 2 hours if you’re focused.
Final Thoughts
While Do Epic Shit might not be for advanced readers, it’s a great starting point for anyone looking to learn from Warikoo’s experiences and avoid making the same mistakes. If you're a beginner, you’ll definitely pick up some useful tips to improve your mindset, productivity, and life in general.
